The manuf is suggesting headphones with 300 Ohms impedance & higher. I'd also like to know how Zavato came to this conclusion. I'm not sure about the bass response being down 3dB. That might work against/tax the Crack unit & it's possible that bass response will suffer.
It will come with a PDF manual chock full of high resolution photos to make the build easy, and builders will have access to the best tube amp kit tech support forum out there, the Bottlehead Forum. Like all Bottlehead kits this kit is intended to be for someone who doesn’t read schematics and may not have built an amp before. Looking for designs/schematics that are considered good ones. Peavey Schematics - Amp Repair Parts Manuals and free owners instruction pdf guides. I have always threatened to try a PP 2A3 amp, so now might be a good time. Starting to look around for my next bread board project. If you use a lower impedance headphone like the 32 Ohms you are intending, not only with you end up cranking the volume knob to get more SPL but you will also tax the circuit to output more current into your 32 Ohms headphones (to get an adequate voltage swing to create that SPL). Posted by vinnie2 (A) on Septemat 07:33:22. Will edit this post if I find information on the amps. If I recall correctly theyre priced under 2,000 for the pair. I found the above at a link from the Bottlehead website. Bottlehead is releasing a pair of 2A3 based monoblocks for under 2,000 in the coming months but I cant find the link to the amp (early morning / lack of coffee / general tiredness). (I'd suggest 300 Ohms and up, but some will find it fine for cans down to 100 Ohms.) This amp is called a 6V6 Push-Pull amp, the 6V6 being the tube model, but whats this push-pull business It refers to a special case of differential circuits, where a whole signal is made up of the difference of two voltages, a negative and a positive (technically speaking, only the output stage is push. The output is capacitively coupled (the only cap in the audio path), and has an output impedance of about 120 Ohms making it an amp suited mainly for higher impedance headphones. Push-Pull The basic principle behind this amp is pretty cool and worth taking a look at. It uses a 12AU7A as its input stage, and a 6080 in a cathode follower configuration as its output stage.
